Q. How should I store matcha after opening?
A. For the best color, aroma, and flavor, we recommend enjoying it within 4 weeks after opening. Always close the package tightly and store it away from heat, light, moisture, and strong odors.
During cooler, drier months, it may be stored in a cool, dark place. During hot or humid weather, refrigeration is recommended. For longer-term storage of an unopened package, it may also be kept in the freezer.
When removing matcha from the refrigerator or freezer, keep the package sealed until it has naturally returned to room temperature. Opening it while still cold may cause condensation, which can affect the powder’s quality. Avoid repeatedly moving the same package between cold storage and room temperature.
Q. Does matcha contain more caffeine than coffee?
A. Not necessarily. A typical 2 g serving of pure matcha contains approximately 60–70 mg of caffeine, while an approximately 240 ml cup of brewed coffee commonly contains around 80–100 mg. However, the actual amount varies depending on the tea, serving size, product recipe, and how the coffee is brewed.
Matcha also naturally contains L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea. Caffeine and L-theanine may work together to support alertness and concentration, but individual responses vary. Matcha still contains caffeine and may affect sleep or cause discomfort in people who are sensitive to it.
WACHA products made with matcha or other tea ingredients naturally contain caffeine. Products specifically labeled “caffeine-free,” including BLUE MATCHA and RED MATCHA, do not contain caffeine. Please check each product page or package for details.
