Important changes to U.S. shipments starting August 29, 2025

From August 29, 2025, there will be big changes to how items are shipped to the United States.
Here’s what you need to know:

❓ What is changing?

• The “De Minimis” tax exemption (no customs duty for items under USD 800) will be suspended.

• Items valued at USD 100 or more will now be taxed.

• Most items from Japan to the U.S. are expected to face a 15% customs duty.

❓ Which shipping methods are affected?

• Japan Post EMS has stopped shipping to the U.S. from August 27, 2025.

• This suspension covers items such as:

  • Food, drinks, supplements

  • Tableware, cutlery, kitchenware

  • Skincare, makeup, haircare, bodycare, hygiene products

• These items cannot be shipped via EMS until further notice.

❓ How is Buyee handling this?

To make shopping stress-free, Buyee is moving to Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) for major shipping options:

• Buyee Air Delivery

• DHL

• FedEx

• UPS
  (including Puerto Rico, Saipan, and Guam)

👉 With DDP, customs duties are prepaid.
That means:

• No surprise fees upon delivery

• Clear, all-inclusive prices

• Faster, smoother shipping

❓ Will there be more changes?

Yes, U.S. customs rules are still under discussion.
